Hi. Yeah it’s me. Been a while hasn’t it? Wow, you’ve changed your hair. I like it. Very mature but not in one of those “I’m too good for fart jokes” kind of ways. So how’ve you been?
I don’t really care too much actually. To find out how you’ve been I’d have to wait for comments to come flooding in and, lets face it, that’s not likely to happen any time soon. Unless my one Greek reader has been holding out hope in the midst of the fiscal crisis in his world. I seriously doubt Acidophilus Oikos has been waiting on me. Don’t you love how I can take a joke that was moderately entertaining almost two years ago and keep going with it? It’s a talent. And one that I don’t use wisely. Anyway…
It’s been a long time. I’ve been busy. We’ve grown apart. I still like you as friends. I blame 9/11. Too soon? So what has happened since September 2011 that is noteworthy? Steve Jobs died. I dropped out of community college (more on that later). Got a new job (same company, different title). And I turned 29.
Out of all of those things I would say that entering the last year of my 20s is the one that is most noteworthy. It’s the end of an era. Mostly good things. Some things that I would rather not remember and some things that I can’t remember due to contractual obligations with competing blogging services. Actually that last one isn’t true. Would be cool though wouldn’t it?
I turned 29 back in September and believe it or not I started this entry back then. It was supposed to be a bucket list for my last year as a twenty-something and guess what? I wrote half of it and then lost interest. Pretty typical actually. No time to dedicate to the craft of writing a half-assed moderately entertaining piece of drivel. I’ve been busy…working.
So about five months after I haphazardly attempted going back to school for an Associate’s degree in IT my company restructured in pretty dramatic fashion. It saw me jumping from PC monkey to Business Analyst, which is a pretty great gig. As a result I no longer had a need to finish my IT degree. So now I have joined the ranks of the college graduate who dropped out of community college after their Bachelor’s. It’s an exclusive club consisting mostly of me and, oddly enough, Scott Baio. I see him at the meetings sometimes. Nice guy. Seems kinda sad.
Again that last part wasn’t true. Actually the dropout part was. The Scott Baio part I really don’t know. I’m calling these things out because I don’t want to be accused of misleading my readers. Oftentimes my witty brilliance is mistaken for actual fact. Though it is much more fun when you just accept it at face value and don’t judge the writing. Just go along with it.
What else? Oh, I logged in to this thing and found that my Twitter feed was no longer showing up. Apologies for that. You must have been worried. You can follow me on Twitter @rexallcowboy. Original I know. Also I found out that the original blogging service I started with, EasyJournal.com, went under and as a result some of my most angsty and hilarious ramblings have been lost to the interwebs. Believe it or not, I’ve been blogging for almost 10 years. It’s disappointing to lose all of that but in a way it’s good that no one, including me, will be able to see what an idiot I used to be. See what I did there? I said ‘used to be’. Haha. Like I’m not still an idiot.
Which leads me to this. Why now? Why after all of this time do I come waltzing back into your lives leaving a trail of elation and laugh lines? Well dear reader, the answer is simple. I’m in Dublin and you need to hear about it.
