Mobile blog!!!!

I figured out how the currency works here and got meself (stereotypical slang) a SIM card with data and here I am. Bloggin on a tour bus! Ain't technology grand?

Today was the all day tour day. Went to The Rock of Cashel, Blarney, and Cork. Lovely places all. Weather kinda sucked but that's what I get for coming to Ireland in the winter. No surprises there.

The Rock of Cashel was very very cool. It's the home of a cathedral from the 13th century. This was St. Patrick's cathedral. Yeah. That Patrick. The one with the day in March. Guess he was kind of a big deal.

Blarney has Blarney Castle and the sacred stone of disease also known as the Blarney Stone. Again, very old but also very cool. And kinda gross if you think about it. Try not to think about it.

Cork was wet. Very wet. Downpour with no umbrella or rain jacket wet. Needless to say we didn't do a whole lot of exploring there.

So here's what I've learned about Ireland so far:

1. I've seen like four people with red hair here proving once again that I am ignorant.

2. The people here are incredibly friendly not like those uppity Brits!

3. They use the Euro here. Even though it's brightly colored it is not play money. And things are kind of expensive.

4. They have no paper currency below 5€. I now have a pocket full of coins.

5. They have gypsies here. They are called travelers. Jury is still out on whether they are the shanking kind.

6. No water closets here. Just toilets. I can handle that.

7. Irish Spring does not exist here. It's called soap. And you might be racist for thinking otherwise.

8. Google Maps has no idea how to give walking directions around Dublin. Neither does Apple Maps.

9. It takes exactly 15 seconds for me to revert to irritated American when I'm lost. Saying things like "Who the hell doesn't have street signs?"

10. Turns out I need to learn how to read directions.

11. European pints have 568ml. US pints are 473ml. We are getting ripped off.

12. The signage is in Gaelic first and English second. Like being in Walmart with all the Spanish.

13. There are no paper towels anywhere. They do have the infamous rotating towel thing that I broke in England (see 2008 blog entry) mocking me at every turn.

14. Kissing the Blarney Stone is the thing to do.

15. To kiss said stone, one must hang upside down over the edge of the top of the castle holding onto two rails whilst being supported by an Irish gentleman in his 60s.

16. I did it anyway.

Having a great time so far. If my face doesn't sprout some Blarney inspired growth I will also put that in the win column. If not, I'll have a hell of a conversation starter. That's all for now.

Till next time. Adios y'all.

Justin, I forwarded your blog to a co-worker who is originally from Ireland. I think she was exiled, but she says otherwise. Anyways, she said that you should:
1) Try to find Lucky Charms. (I think this will be similar to your Irish Spring search.)
2) Navigate by pubs and/or landmarks.
3) Kissing the Blarney Stone is apparently not the thing to do.

Hope that helps. -T
